Mount a pair of RAID 1 Sata Drives with LVM to a new server...

hi all,

I currently have a pair of sata drives running as a debian server. These are configured with the below partition layout.

Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/vg00-root
                       20G 2.6G 17G 14% /
tmpfs 503M 0 503M 0% /lib/init/rw
udev 10M 68K 10M 1% /dev
tmpfs 503M 0 503M 0% /dev/shm
/dev/md0 471M 33M 414M 8% /boot
/dev/mapper/vg00-var 652G 434G 185G 71% /var

I have a new box, running debian also, off an IDE drive. I want to mount these 2 sata, lvm, raided drives keeping the same configuration.

Would i just
1] remove the boot partition,
2] plug them in,
3] mount up /dev/mapper/vg00-root
4] mount up /dev/mapper/vg00-var

If not, what would be the steps?

Thanks

Well, I'm a bit confused about your setup. Are the two sata drives using the linux software Raid, or are you just split across the disks using the LVM? (one volume group spread across two physical volumes)

If you are using just the LVM, install the disks and run 'pvscan'. This will scan the available physical volumes for partitions setup for LVM. Then run 'vgscan' and you should see the volume groups on the disks, after the vgscan activate all the logical volumes with 'vgchange -a y'. After this they should be available to mount.

If you have complicated your setup with the software RAID, I can't help you. I have never setup RAID on linux.

Yeah, the 2 sata drives are using Linux Software Raid, with LVM partitioning on top.
