Memory leak in RHEL4 in the page cache

During the RHEL4 32bit testing, I have run into Linux virtual memory issues during the long runs. I was using specweb workload that stresses a web server. The problem I see is that the main memory is getting totally filled up by the page cache, and during the long runs, the page swapping will kick in which totally affects the performance.
Even in tests with limited fileset data (6 GB), I'm seeing page cache going over 8 GB. I did not see such issues using the same web server on 64bit RHEL4.

Surely, appreciate any suggestions or thoughts. Thanks.

I'd be looking to ensure nothing else is filling that page cache.
Given the history of updatedb, that'd be the first thing I'd shoot. Make sure the cron entry for the daily scan is disabled.
While you're there check everything else cron does.
