Hello,
I am running a backup server with raid5 configuration - 3 HDDs. After I have created the array, it started like this:
Code:
/dev/md1:
Version : 01.00.03
Creation Time : Mon Feb 25 17:42:05 2013
Raid Level : raid5
Array Size : 5836802304 (5566.41 GiB 5976.89 GB)
Used Dev Size : 5836802304
Raid Devices : 3
Total Devices : 3
Preferred Minor : 1
Persistence : Superblock is persistent
Update Time : Mon Feb 25 17:50:26 2013
State : clean, degraded
Active Devices : 2
Working Devices : 3
Failed Devices : 0
Spare Devices : 1
Layout : left-symmetric
Chunk Size : 64K
Name : 1
UUID : ecd31125:bd829810:aebff2f7:31e035a4
Events : 30
Number Major Minor RaidDevice State
0 8 20 0 active sync /dev/sdb4
1 8 36 1 active sync /dev/sdc4
3 8 52 2 spare rebuilding /dev/sdd4
Some rebuild actually started there, but I had to reboot meanwhile and since then it doesn't really start any rebuild. I tried exactly the same procedure on another machine (different version of mdadm though) and it works just fine.
I've been searching the Internet for quite a while, but couldn't find any relevant answer.
mdadm version is 2.6.2 running on openSuSE 10.2
Does anyone know the reason why it happens (a) or the solution (b)?
