maximum files per directory for optimal access speed when having 13 million files
i have to upload 13 million html files for an application onto our linux server so that they can be accessed by our staff. i need to know what the optimal maximum number of files should be in a directory so as to ensure a reasonable response time when someone requests a particular file for viewing.
i will write a program to create multiple sub directories and store X number of files per directory so that the access speed is optimal, but what should the maximum number of files in each directory be before it gets too large and slows the system down... 2000, 20000, 200000????
any help would be appreciated
