Mail server on linux

Hi !
I have seen some mail server like sendmail , post mail etc . May be i cannot make you understand what i want but let me try.

There are few mail server available on windows which provide GUI based Front End and you do all settings , user account management etc using Front end . Is there any mail server avialable for linux like that?
If not then if i configure send mail or any other can i perform similiar task from Front End.
Plz do refer some good howto for the desired thing i want.
Thanks.

nope, there is no gui for administering email servers in linux.

you could use webmin and work through a web browser, it's the closest you'll get.

with linux the rule is:
GUI and servers DO NOT MIX.

servers are command line only, to save BLOAT of gui from bogging them down.

take a look at Scalix. maybe that's what you're looking for?
Really easy and fast to install with front ended Gui.

personal I like qmail, just because of its flexibility

WRONG!

I use a hand full of Web Enabled GUI applications to manage my mail servers, all the time; I've done it for years. I can add/delete accounts, view logs, virus/spam quarantines, all with a browser and a few clicks, etc...

There are like two dozen good (webmin like) PHP driven applications for managing Linux Email servers. You just have to look for the one that best suits you. If not then you can create one yourself.

While I am sure there are some MTA's that have a graphical front end, I am not aware of any of them. However, the major MTA's do not have this ability.

You should install postfix. This is what I use for my domains. Compared to Courier and Sendmail, it is a breeze to install and maintain. I don't care much for Qmail since it is no longer supported by the author. Patches and 3rd party add-ons are now done by the public to add functionality to the program.

A postfix + dovecot(IMAP/POP3 server) setup is exactly what I use and recommend.

http://www.scalix.com/

If you are new to linux, it is one of the easiest to setup.

- gui-based installer for SUSE and REDHAT
- gui-based manager
- supports outlook connectivity
- has web client that looks/acts like outlook

- is FREE! (the community version)
