I have beeen trying to setup sendmail and postfix as relaying mail servers, but i get the same problem with both. I only run one mail server at a time, i have just tried both to see if there were any difference.
I first configure which hosts that should be allowed to connect to the servers and then who should be allowed to use the servers to send mail. After trying the telnet test on port 25 its seems to work, but when checking the mail queue and the logs i see that no mail is actually being sent, its just somehow stuck in the mail queue and usually times out. When checking the mail logs its the same thing, its says the delivery times out (i guess its the delivery, but it at least says it times out).
So, the problem is that the mail is never being sent, it just stays in the mail queue without being sent and in the mail queue and the logs it says that it times out (probably the delivery).
Does someone know a solution to this or know why this is happening? All help is appericiated, thanks.
first of all, stick to one mail server.SendMail or Postfix. Both are the mail servers which will deliver mails and both will require time.Postfix will require less time and i use Postfix. There are hardly 4 or 5 parameters which are required to be changed for a first timer.
Please read the post before you reply. As i said in the first post i only used one mail server at a time and the reason i was trying out postfix too is because i had problems with sendmail. If you think its that easy to set up, then please share your knowledge.
Is there someone else who knows what this problem is?
What exactly does your maillog tell you at around the time you are attempting to send a message (it's best to cut and paste and certainly don't paraphrase)?
