LVM Snapshot question

I am working on a solution where my users can can get instant backups of their data using Microsoft's "Previous Versions"/Shadow technology.

I'm planning on using Samba with LVM and snapshots. I understand that snapshots with LVM2 are r/w but I will be mounting then as r/o.

The problem is that I can find no guidance as to how many snapshots LVM can handle and what are the performance implications.

Keep in mind that these snapshots would be read-only (no data would be written to them) and rarely accessed.

Does anyone have any applicable experience?

Thanks
Bob
