looking for software solution for searching files via http

Hi Pple,
i've taken a long time without logging in, and am happy to see many improvements to the site.
We have a File server (suse samba server with scsi raid5) that stores all our documents and it has become very difficult for pple to locate documents in reasonable amount of time. I want to find a solution that can enable users to request for documents, based on documents names, creation date, description, word string within document, meta info, etc...
Users should be able to request this information via http and be given a link to open the document.
The backend database should preferable be mysql.

Pls let me know of any such software and its (dis)advantages and experience with it.

Greetings
Markus
