Logwatch not sending emails
 

I am having an issue with a server that won't send the daily log recaps to either the root account or an external email address. If I run logwatch or logwatch --mailto (email address) nothing gets
sent nor does anything show up in /var/log/mailog. But if I run logwatch –debug low,med or high and email is generated and sent to both the external email address and root and there is an entry for the message in /var/log/mailog. I have reinstalled the logwatch package(5.2.4) with the issue still being the same. I tried this with default logwatch.conf mailing only to root and then the a simple modified of the mailto line “mailto= root, (eternal email)”.

Additional I check and I am able to send email thru mail to internal and external email address. At this point I am at a loss to figure out what to check next, any help or idea will be most helpful.

Well figured it out. I had a typo in the /etc/hosts file.
