Local Ubuntu Server periodically boots my connections to it
Hi LQ,
Using Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS.
I'll have a putty session with it, and also a small mumble server which my friends and I use to voip while we game, and periodically (seems like every few minutes) my putty session will shutdown, and I'll be booted from the mumble server. The odd thing is that it doesn't boot my friends who are remotely connected to it.
It could be due to a whole bunch of different reasons. I have no experience with Mumble, but if your friends are not getting disconnected it's probably not that. It would be useful to know what your friends are using and to confirm that you are using PuTTY for Windows from your desktop vs PuTTY for Linux from your laptop (or both) when it disconnects, but...
While disconnected, from the main PuTTY screen, Load the saved profile, then go in to Connection. Try setting "Seconds between keepalives" to something like 30, or really any # less than how often you get disconnected. If your connection is dropping due to inactivity, that should keep it active.

Hi there and thanks for the reply! I should have came here and updated the post, I actually forgot about it.
I discovered the issue. Apparently my router has USB port on the back of it, and it shares whatever is on the USB memory stick plugged into it on the Windows network. It comes up as "INTEL_CE_LINUX" on the windows network. This special "feature" which I don't seem to have the power to disable uses 192.168.0.2 and is not reported in anyway on the Router, this is a Hitron modem/router from my ISP. I had the netbook set to use 192.168.0.2 so I guess it was fighting with the router over where to forward the traffic. Stupid garbage router but at least I know I can't actually use the IP now.
