Load testing of web server

Hi all,

I was willing to deploy a webserver on which we are expecting to get an avg hit will be more than 80 thousand for around a week then will gradually decrease. Now to test the performance is there any load testing software which we can imply on the webserver before going live or any other issue to take under consideration.

Server details:
---------------
Processor : Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.00GHz
RAM : 4GB
stepping : 6
cpu MHz : 3000.113
cache size : 4096 KB

Apache 2.2.8
mysql 5.0.51

Thanks for taking your time to reply.
Now how to simulate the users hit on the site? As on the launching day at a specific time users are going to hit and we have to survive that disaster.
