Hi
OS =oracle enterprise linux 5.4(64bit)
serever =HP DL380 G5
I didn't attach any monitor and keybord to that server and i tried to install linux on graphic mode on this linux by ilo2 ..but it is impossible to install linux on graphic mode and only text mode is possible!
but when i attach a monitor to the server all things work correctly.
What is my problem!
How exactly are you installing? Using physical CD/DVD in the servers CDROM drive? Mounting the CD/DVD on the iLO over the network? If you're only using the iLO to monitor the progress, then that's fine but if you are, on the other hand, installing the complete OS over the network by iLO, then you can expect a lot of latency and failures.
We have several systems with iLO (HP) and DRAC (Dell) that we have installed Windows, and Linux via and have not had any problems.
I would make sure that you have the iLO and system updated to the latest firmware. That is where I have seen issues more often than not.
Hi,
Correct when working in a local LAN. At that level the latency is not that present. But try over the WAN, to which I referred and what pointed us (our team and HP) to several issues using the iLO for complete OS installation. Another problem arises when using kickstart over the iLO in the way we do. If the iLO or network connection errors out/gets lost, then there's no way of telling that when just using the iLO. We've had several occurrences of installation times of +5 hours for a RHEL installation using iLO over the WAN whereas a local installation on the same hardware takes about 45 minutes tops. In 90% of the WAN installation tries we were confronted with several problems that didn't arise when installing locally. Hence my advice to just use it for what it's made for, avoid the need to go to the server physically and follow the progress using the iLO.
