Lighttpd/FreeBSD vs CentOS/Apache
I have been running a home based web server for about 1.5 yrs now. It has been CentOS/Apache. I am familiar with linux but have limited Unix experience. I have been thinking of switching to FreeBSD for quite some time and have also always been curious about Lighttpd. Does anyone have any experience with Lighttpd + FreeBSD? Will I see much of a performance gain switching from CentOS/Apache to Lighttpd/FreeBSD? I am basically needing a 10,000ft answer to see if its even worth my time to give it a chance. If the performance gain will be negligible i will probably not pursue.
FYI: Current server is running 2 sites. One is just an informational website of about 50 pages with about 200-300 hits per day and the other is a blog allowing comments with about 300-400 hits per day. I also run a forum but it is hosted remotely as I dont believe my home connection could handle a forum. |
I'm running lighttpd in RHEL server. I hope the below URL will helps in the installation steps.
