LDAP Tools on RHEL

Hi All,

Here i am again with another question for you all. I have been searching for a standalone or built-in CLI tool for Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) which will allow me to query any LDAP ( primarily Microsoft Active Directory). I'm aware of ldapsearch and other tools which are available only on an LDAP server.

The usage scenario is as follows.

We have a Apache based web application which imports user data from Active Directory. I am responsible for deploying this application in various customer premises with varying LDAP structures. What I need is a way to verify details provided to me by the customer before I start the installation, I'd love to find a way to do this from a linux environment.

Right now I login to windows machine and use 'dsquery' from CLI and "ldp" from GUI to accomplish these tasks. A CLI command or tool will be best, I can also settle for a GNOME based tool if nothing else.

Does anyone know of existence of any such tool?

Thanks in advance!

AFAIK ldapsearch doesn't get installed unless you install OpenLDAP. I cannot install OpenLDAP on these servers as they are purposed for other uses.

Can I get ldapsearch in a "portable" format ?

it's normally in a seperate openldap-tools or openldap-clients package. no server needed.
