LDAP install issues centOS 5 VMware

Im very, VERY new too Linux in general so be easy on me =P Anyhow when I try too install LDAP after I have used gunzip and all that good stuff I get the error "make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop." when following instructions from

http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin23/quickstart.html

on step 5 "build the software" any help on what I am doing wrong or how too fix it very much appreciated.

Installing from source will make it harder to manage the system, unless you have means to track installs like installwatch or equivalent. Ask yourself if it is really necessary, after all you run CentOS, so why not install LDAP from a repo? The error you encountered is because you probably forgot to run 'configure' from step #4.
