ldap directory use with email client

Hello,

I'm trying to set up my ldap directory server with thunderbird so that the entries in the directory will show up when someone types in a name when sending an email. I have my directory server properties as follows (aka here's a similar example):

Name: ldap directory
Hostname: myhostname.com
Base DN: dc=ldapserver,dc=com
Port number: 389 (was the default, I didn't change it)
Bind DN: cn=Manager,dc=ldapserver,dc=com

When I try to write an email a box pops up that says ldap server password required, but in the box it says password needed for myhostname.com. I'm not sure which it is really asking for, but either way when I type it in and try to search I get a non descriptive ldap server search error. Does anyone know why this may be?

Thanks,
nhay

Debug

If you switch your LDAP server to debug mode, you'll be able to see the queries Thunderbird is running. You should be able to tell the problem using those logs.

Thanks for the input. I'll give that a shot.

Hi janoszen,

I'm actually having some trouble going about this. I've set loglevel=-1 in my slapd.conf but I'm not sure where to find the logs for it. Do you know where I can find them or how I can view them otherwise?

Logs?

Well, have you taken a look into your syslog? Or just simply set "logfile"... you should really read the documentation at least once.

I actually just found the logfiles. I can't read them though. They have symbols my terminal doesn't recognize apparently. Trying to fix this now.
