This server has been running bind9 since 2006. If my hd is going, what is the best way to back this system up? just back up bind since that is all that is there, or can I use a usb drive to do a full backup? its only got a 10gb hard drive in it. If I can get the image, what should I use to back it up with software wise.

I'd just use dd to make a complete backup to another drive.

After that, try using the Ultimate Boot CD or SystemRescue cd to run hard disk diagnostics. That should tell you definitively if the drive is dying.

Will do and report back. Other than that, the server is working perfectly.

Well I was trying to use rsync to make a backup to one of my web host using

Code:
rsync -v -e ssh /home/username username@hostname.net:~
Output was

Code:
[root@ns2 ~]# rsync -v -e ssh /backup.tar.gz username@host1.mydomain.net:~
The authenticity of host 'host1.mydomain.net (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)' can't be established.
RSA key fingerprint is eb:b2:b7:02:bc:ca:e3:9f:86:54:50:8d:77:91:d4:bd.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes
Warning: Permanently added 'host1.myhost.net,xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' (RSA) to the list of known hosts.

[root@ns2 ~]# rsync -v -e ssh /home/username/ns2.backup.tar.gz username@host1.myhost.net:~

So does this look like it is okay? And could you tell me what I am doing wrong on backing up this 12gig server? What tar command can I use to do the whole drive (single drive system) and send the file to another server. Tear it down replace the drive and install centos or restore that file to bring it back to the way it was?

If it has the ability to use S.M.A.R.T., you may be able to get the certain problem, whether it be sectors or whatever.
