Intermittent ipop3d problem

Has anybody found a solution for this intermittent message in the logs

Feb 11 10:24:05 hostname ipop3d[23828]: Unexpected client disconnect, while reading line user=user host=userpc [192.168.10.24 ]

It occurs on average about 50 times a day when the client checks for waiting email once every minute. The other connects are normal.

The ipop3d version is 2007c.104 and it is installed on a Slackware mail server with Linux version 3.2.13-smp.

A search of past postings indicates that a malformed mail messages in the client outbox could be the problem but there is generally nothing waiting in the client outbox. The same is true for incoming mail to the client. There does not seem to be any connection between mail being sent or delivered. I also read that it might be a certificate problem, but that strikes me as a cause of a full time problem, not an intermittent one.

Any ideas? Intermittent problems are a bear.

I have the same messages in my logs although I'm running IMAPS. The messages happen for all users at varying times, but none of us are having problems with our mail clients so I filter them out when I'm reading the logs.

Are your users having any problems? Are their clients not re-connecting?

The client's do connect the next time, or the second time (rarely needed), but I have users that use email like instant messaging and they get a little annoyed if they are waiting for an email to arrive or for one to go out if the problem happens to occur when they are using email. I think I would much rather figure out what is causing the problem than just ignore it. At least it would make my users happier.
