Installing Ubuntu server on Mac (PowerPC not Intel CPU)

So I wanted to create an FTP server, and maybe put Apache on my Mac, but one of my friends was saying that Mac systems interface differently with their hardware as compared to PC's. I'm not too familiar with Mac computers. Is there a special way to install Ubuntu server on my Mac? Or can I just create a partition and install it as I would on a Windows machine? I tried looking this up but could only find threads like "make your ubuntu machine look like Mac OSX" and other such topics. I appreciate all the help! Thanks!

I am not a Mac user personally so I'm afraid that's all the help I've got.

Yeah, I'm not a Mac user either. The machine was free and my want for free toys overpowers my enmity with Macs. But I figured I could still make use of it if I made it into a file server. But I'll check those links out. Thanks snowpine.
