'yum downgrade [packagename]'

Or

'yum erase [packagename.1.2.3]', then 'yum install [packagename.1.1.3]'.

I know I might sound like Tb0ne, but a properly licensed platform and product should come with clear, concise instructions without having to manually depsolve for old packages, which could be a HUGE PITA.

why do you NEED!!!! old unfixed bug ridden versions of software
and for WHAT software

sometimes all one needs to do is FIX what is broken

but
all this also begs the question

you are paying for a non free clone of redhat

and as such you have access to the SUPPORT you are paying for

Also redhat assumes that you ARE AN EXPERIENCED redhat system admin or have the equivalent experience
as in you have the training that redhat supplies
https://access.redhat.com/certifications
-- the redhat docs ( oracle also uses these )
https://access.redhat.com/documentat...erprise_Linux/

if you do not use that "paid for " support then you have a very steep learning curve

if you use yum you will NEED to add a "exclude" setting to the yum program
or
if you build the OLD source code you will ALSO need to add the "exclude" to /etc/yum.conf

use the documentation for
" DOWNGRADING " a package
you can also use the Centwiki docs , but they are mostly for CentOS 5 and some of 6
http://wiki.centos.org/

With CentOS anyway you can also download the rpm for the desired package, then yum install <path to downloaded rpm>, or if an older version of yum use yum localinstall <path>

Odds are pretty good the install will fail because of dependency problems when installing software built for a different version of the OS than the one you're on.

Yes, of course. So what's the point? I suppose we could also suggest that he 'rpm -iVh --force [pkgname]', too, but...

So you can keep the package known to your yum database, and it will show up as installed in a yum list, etc.
