install of raid 5 during server load

I have 3 identical drives and I would like to set up software raid 5. I have read that raid 5 will not boot Ubuntu so the boot partitian has to be mirrored. Is this true?

I have made several attempts to install and configure raid 5 during load and it simply has not happened. Machine locks up.

I have been trying to setup 5 partitions the same on all three drives but when I create the MD that is as far as I can go.

I first setup a 100mb primary and the rest equal size 30 gig logical partitions but again the setup blows up during the creation of MD0. I would like to undestand this setup and redo the configuration with LVM drives down the road.

Any assistance would be helpful.

You can Create the Raid 5 on Ubonto and its will also boot but during insalaltion when you will create /boot (100 MB) ,EXT3 partiion type.
it will boot up it.

1)Click on Raid button
2)Type Mount point
3)Slect File system type
4)Slect Raid Level,In your Case Raid Level 5(Add All Volumes)
5)Select Partions/disks as member of Raid.
Click on Ok
Hope this will helpful

raid partitioner blows up during config.

I have had to fdisk these drives 4 times now because raid will not configure. I can get maybe two partitions completed and while working on the next the partitioner lockes up and I have to force a reboot.

I don't understand because this is easy stuff and I know I am not doing anything wrong. I have even tried a two partition default load / and swap and while creating raid the partitioner locks up.

I can do a load on one drive all day but raid is something else.

Anyone else having the same problem.
