I am using CentOS 5.
I want to restrict users for using POP3 or IMAP.
It means I want to give some users only POP3 access, i.e. they can configure their account as pop3 only not imap.
In the same way, if I give some users only IMAP access, then they are not allowed to setup their mail account for POP3.
This happens in Exchange, but I want to make this in Linux.
what kind of configuration is needed to do this.
Can you please tell me the steps to get this.

Hi.

You have to give us the names of the software you are using first. For Example, I am using Dovecot and Virtualmin GPL control panel. Then we will se if anything can be done.

I think this will happen with the PAM configuration.

But I don't have any idea to make it work.

I have made pop file in /etc/pam.d directory which contains :

auth required /lib/security/pam_listfile.so item=user sense=deny file=/etc/pop_users onerr=fail

And also created /etc/pop_users file which contains user "ravi".

So now if I am going to configure this users POP3 account in outlook express, it works fine, it does not give any error like "permission denied" or "user is denied for POP3 access", etc

I expect like this.

Please suggest me if anything wrong above and guide me with the proper configuration scenario.
