OK, first off, hello everybody!!!

I am not a newbie, but not a guru by any means. I am working on migrating email from one box to another. (RHE{lewispestcontrol box}>CentOS 5 {circleofbrains box}).

Now, i have seen it done. I have done it with help right over my shoulder, but this time i figured i could do it.

I think i broke roots email.

from the lewispestcontrol box I tared up:
/var/spool/mail
/home
/etc/passwd
/etc/group

then i scped them to the circleofbrains box and exploded them there.

now root is not getting email (logwatch, crons). I checked and all the crons are running. If i send an email to root@circleofbrains.com it goes like this,

tail of /var/log/maillog of the email coming thru

circleofbrains box getting email from lewispestcontrol box (lkress@lewispestcontrol.net)...
circleofbrains box forwarding roots email to lkress@lewispestcontrol.net as in aliases file
So this email should still be in /var/spool/mail/root correct?

When i tail it, its not there, lkress@lewispestcontrol.net never got, nor is getting roots email anymore. And when i tail the /var/spool/mail/lkress on the lewispestcontrol box, its not there either.

I think i broke it good this time.

I took out lkress@lewispestcontrol.net in the etc/mail/aliases and put root in there. Did a newaliases. Then sent an email to root@circleofbrains.com and it showed up in /var/spool/mail/root

It will not forward if i change the aliases nor was any cron or logwatch emails in there.

I am gonna go kick of the logwatch cron and see if it generates an email.

btw, extreme sendmail newbie...but trying to learn

OK, so if i have roots mail sent to someplace else, then it will by pass the /var/spool/mail/root file?

I know it seems like i am talking to myself, but just tring to get the info out.

Sendmail is sending the emails for root, but lkress@lewispestcontrol.net is not getting them.

OK, who wants to know how big of an idiot i am??

I put lewispestcontrol.net in the local-domain-names of the new box, but have not moved the domain yet. Took it out, restarted sendmail, and boom, it works.

I am such a dork.

So, i got if fixed. Thanks anyway. I am sure there will be other ways in the future that i will need yall to help me.
