I need a simple, LOCAL email server.

And I can't seem to find one. I have Debian Etch. I'm fairly new at Linux... but I can funtion in a command-line only enviroment. One of those easy step-by-step HOWTO things would be great... but can anyone give me a program name that gets me in the right direction? Free software only please.
