HTTPS reverse proxy/VPN???

Can anyone recommend software that's relatively easy to configure for a HTTPS reverse proxy/"vpn"?

Essentially, I want something that allows me to access a set list of internal sites through a HTTPS proxy - i.e. like:
https://www.example.com/http://internalHost/

I'd like something that had builtin authentication, and can possibly pull from LDAP, as I'm going to be implementing that soon. Obviously, I want to be able to define a list of allowed and unallowed URLs, but it would be great if I could also define this on a per-user basis.

Any suggestions would be helpful. I worked for a larger company that had such a setup for off-site users, but I'm not sure how it's implemented or what the technical name is.

I did a quick search and found some options that seem like they may do what I want - nginex, squid, and Sun Java System Web Proxy Server, but I can't find any concise information on whether they do what I want.

Thanks,
Jason

After quite a bit more googling, it looks like Pound or Sun Java System Web Proxy Server will be the best fit. The Sun product looks like it does a lot more of what I want - I don't know how much authentication Pound will do itself, but Sun handles LDAP. However, my Solaris skills aren't great, and my network is 99% Linux. We'll see how it goes...
