I am interested in experience with web ha cluster solutions (Apache server) that you use in production. I start with the first http failover servers so I interested in proposals.
You don't give details of your exact requirement, but here's our setup:
Our websites generate content from a back-end database, websites themselves don't store any dynamic content such as uploaded files.
The three webservers have a Citrix NetScaler in front of them, this is used for load balancing and high availability, inthat if one web server fails the NetScaler will automatically route enquiries to the remaining servers.
We keep the web servers consistent by uploading any changes to a separate upload area on one of the servers and then rsyncing to the three servers.
I have built two web servers, two different physical hardware that share a common NFS data (third server, like NAS), and my current principle is switchover.
Ok, if that's the case then RedHat Cluster Service (or the CentOS equiv) would probably give you what you need in terms of switchover. If you're using a NFS based NAS solution then you'll probably want culster services to switch a "shared" IP between to two and start apache. You may need to have a defined service to unmount / remount the NFS mount point.
you can try redhat's luci for managing and configuring ha cluster it's much easy to workaround with one besides that you will probably need to get ipbased-power-switch. which you can use to bring down server instantly for spontenous switchover. hope that was helpful for you.
