HP RAW Printer Port 9100

Im not entirely sure if this is the right place to post this question but i need help on it urgently...

I currently send postscript to port 9100 on a printer directly...

On a tektronix phaser 8400dp this works perfectly...However

On a newere HP Laserjet which does support postscript the RAW port is not interpreting the postscript and is just printing the ps code out.

I can't seem to find much documentation on the RAW printer port...

I am doing this for SCO and not using CUPS for other reasons im not gonna go into right now. anyway, My first thought was i need to find a way to tell the RAW printer port to add it to the BINPS printer queu on the hp laserjet...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

To me it seems rather silly not using CUPS. The question is: why making life difficult when it can be so easy.

What is the model number of your HP printer? IMO your printer may be configured for PCL instead of postscript. I understand what you mean by raw but is really not a correct term.

There may be other queues on the printer than RAW.. such as TEXT, AUTO, BINPS(binary postscript over lpd). Did you check your documentation ?

the queue is selected in your printer definition on the server, so change the definition from RAW to BINPS or AUTO and give it a shot.

Code:
Queue name(use the port number in the queue name for multiple port Jetdirects, e.g., raw2) LPD reaction
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
raw, raw1, raw2, raw3 No processing
text, text1, text2, text3 Carriage return added
auto, auto1, auto2, auto3 (Jetdirect firmware version of x08.03 and later) Automatic
binps

this may be useful to you as well..

i might have missed something but i think you answered your own question.

If the printer does not support postscript, you can't print a postscript file to it without sending it through an interpreter first to convert it to a format it understands.

Cal G

Edit: My mistake, i read "does not" instead of the clearly printed "does"

Indeed silly, but i think i know why. He is likely trying to print from an evil SCO box application such as one i am saddled with, and they do not use the OS provided Print system. They have just this past month added IP printing, but again avoid the OS provided print system.

I've been suggesting to my software vendor for years that serial printing was a bit out of touch.

It would seem soooo logical for them to just submit the print to the OS print spooler, and let you do whatever you want with it after that, but that "may" affect the sales of serial printers and Digiports.
