Howto: make "/var/lib/mysql " acessable as a samba share for WinXP Pro?

I am trying to setup a way where I can take the changes that I've made to my MySQL databases on my WinXP Pro box and upload them to my MySQL server running Debian. Is using Samaba the correct way to do this or is thair a more secure or efficient way of accomplishing this task?

My databases are stored in the /var/lib/mysql so I have elected to make that a samba share. If this is wrong please give me an alteerative.

Thanks in advance.

I have chmoded the /var/lib/mysql to 444 if this was a mistake pleae tell me what setting the UMask should be on. Also, here is what I have in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file for this /var/lib/mysql directory share

[mysql]

comment = Databases on Gate Keeper
browseable = yes
writeable = yes
readable = yes
create mask = 777
path = /var/lib/mysql/

Wait, MySQL running on Windows and you want to replicate to a Linux box? Transferring the files via Samba from one filesystem to the other seems like a really bad idea to me. Perhaps you should look into setting up the Linux MySQL server as a slave (replication) to the WinXP box..
