HOWTO: EMail conifguration using ISPConfig 3/POSTFIX/COURIER/SquirrelMail/SpamAssassi
Hey everyone!
I am looking for a good HOWTO on how to effectively rollout an email server using the howtoforge tutorial "The Perfect Server - Debian Lenny with ISPConfig 3" as a baseline installation starting point.
I have searched up and down howtoforge and other linux help forums to no avail ( I see tutorials for ISP Config 2, but it clearly states it will not work with ISPConfig 3 ), but I have started to favor this community for the fast responses and willingness to help =) so I will ask here first.
Anyone have any experience and offer any insight on how to start a email server, configuration files worth looking at, external links to tutorials elsewhere, books, or anything I can learn about to start this service?
How came you searched other forums and found no links, no tutorials and no any help? And how came /etc/init.d/<yourmailservicename> start doesn't work?
First you've got to tell us what you did to make it started or configured, and what exact problem you experience, and what you failed to find in manuals and online docs.
Using LQ to save your time while avoiding searching it yourself is a wrong way and it obviously won't work
Anyways you can wait for someone having those links on head so he might help you by posting them. But the better way is to try resolving problems yourself, you know that don't you? If you'll solve it yourself you'll remember that for the rest of your life
And btw, why are you willing to do that hard work for making it easy-to-setup through web interface? Are you going to host someone unfamiliar with CLI?
I have searched other forums, and the only current howtos are based off of ISP Config 2, but I use ISP Config 3. The reason behind using ISP Config is I want to be able to remotely access my server's interface with a GUI from any web browser, without having to install putty or attempt to ssh/telnet from a client's machine. It will be easier to use this way for what I want it to be.
How I started this service was simple - I have a brand new server and Im new to Linux, I decided to use Debian "Lenny" for my web hosting/ mail server. I chose to do this because I researched Linux and wanted to learn about it, best way to learn is by doing! I have a few sites that I will be hosting for people I know and family members, as well as some emails associated with those sites.
I have not configured anything for the mail yet (outside of the standard steps as in Falko's 'Perfect Server Debian Lenny with ISP Config 3' ), as I wanted to look for a howto or documentation on how it works, and what to do. The ISP Config site does not offer the best of help or documentation, so I searched here, howtoforge, debianadminstration, linuxforums, etc. All these sites offer many ISP Config 2, but not 3.
I love to solve problems myself, I just need some guidance here because this is only the 3rd week I have been using Linux
=)
If someone has a step by step, thats great. If you can tell me breifly what to do so I can research the details myself, thats even better so I learn more!
Either way, any help is greatly appreciated =)
What I want to do is learn how to setup email addresses for the websites I already have configured in my server. I have ISP Config 3, POSTFIX, Courier, MySQL, PHP, Squirrelmail and Spamassassin installed from the tutorial I followed. Where do I go to learn how to set up these email addresses?
