Question How to zip a file of more than 15 GB


Hi,

I have some problem with ZIP command in RHEL 5. I have a file that is more than 15 GB in size. i have to make password-protected zip file for this. i am issuing the following command :

zip -e MYDATA.dmp.zip MYDATA.dmp
Enter password:
Verify password:
Segmentation fault

After verifying the password, it gives the error "Segmentation fault" and exit to the prompt. can you please help me in this.

You might consider using the split command to break the file down into multiple parts and then zipping those individual portions of the file.

I thought about it but as the requirement before me I have to only zip the entire file.
