How to upgrade APC on RHEL4

Ok, here's my issue. I have a server running Cpanel/WHM on RHEL4. I had installed APC (alternative php caching) in the past, but now I want to upgrade to the latest version. I can't figure out how to upgrade this for the life of me. PECL fails (gives path information errors), and I didn't use it to install APC. Any ideas? Thanks!
