Hello All,

The email server at work has SMTP authenticated by IP. I want to be able to send gmail through that server. Is there a way to authenticate gmail without changing the entire server to password authentication?

The server is running Fedora 9 with sendmail 8.14.2.

While I've worked on the server please reply as though to a newbie.

Good advice but sad to say I am the IT at work.

When I set up the server I understood the authentication options to be either IP authentication or password authentication. This is mostly a closed environment so IP authentication has served us well up until now. But now we have server users that use Google Apps and gmail for everyday use that still want to send official correspondence as a part of our domain.

I'm looking for a simple way to allow several users to send email through the work SMTP using gmail as a client because some recipients block the gmail domain or at least gmail with our servers domain as a return address.

So, is there a way to have certain users authenticate by password while not breaking the IP authentication most are using?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
