How to remove exim4-daemon-light? debian

I have tried

dpkg --purge exim4-daemon-light

but it says:
depends on exim4 | mail-transport_agent but
Package 'exim4' isn't installed
Package 'mail-transport-agent' isn't installed

I have tried to install exim4 and then to purge exim4-daemon-light but
that fails too.
How do I get rid of all exim4 stuff?

I think I have to add that I try to install Qmail on lenny.

I have tried
aptitude keep-all
aptitude purge ~nexim4

And that suggest the installation of ssmtp [2.62-3] but is that the right solution? I don't think Qmail works with ssmtp

No it doesn't but ssmtp could be removed afterwards
