Question how to make a Linux machine as a client of NIS domain server


In a newly installed Linux machine which is a client machine, is
not listening to NIS domain server even after setting IP address ,default gateway,and subnet mask.

What are all the changes to be done in configuration file.And
how can be solved

WHICH Linux are you on?

You need to set the NIS domain name and possibly edit /etc/nsswitch.conf. ypbind also has to be installed. If you tell us what distro you are using, we might be able to tell you how to do it.. or you can do a search yourself.

If you're running debian/ubuntu:

* package "nis" must be installed and configured (see /etc/default/nis)
* /etc/defaultdomain configured (part of nis configuration)
* append your nis server in /etc/yp.conf if broadcast doesn't work
* start nis service
* modify /etc/passwd or /etc/nsswitch.conf to use nis for login ...
