Start by downloading the cd's or the DVD of any Distribution. I think to start either SuSe / Fedora or Ubuntu.

All 3 of them have graphical installations that are almost just as easy if not as easy as Windows.

Here's an installation procedure for when you want to use OPENSuSe 10.1

install procedure suse

Read that, then install .

How easy or how hard really seems to come down to how a person PC knowledge is in general. For instance, installation of Linux is probably going to be generally easier for someone that understands alot about hardware than someone who doesn't. Of course it's going to be the easiest for someone who understands Linux. With all of that said, don't let it discourage you from installing it. For one, there are many distributions of Linux that seem to cater to all sorts of users of all sorts of levels. If you're less of a computer expert, you'll probably want to pick one of the more user friendly distros like Ubuntu, Suse, or perhaps you might be best off to get live CD like knoppix and get a feel for Linux with that first.

Alot of newer users find that working with a Live CD helps alot at first. That way they can get to know Linux and ask for help until they start getting more aquainted with it. Once they get comfortable with Linux then they usually end up installing a distro to their hard drive. Of course though, you might find that you would rather dive in and go for the gusto instead. Some people prefer to do things that way. It all depends on how you prefer to go about things.

There is alot of information all over the internet for Linux to learn it. Some recommend picking up a book to learn it. Everyone has different learning styles.

No. You won't learn until you start using it. As PingFloyd said, either start with a LiveCD or go for broke and install a distro. Only you know how comfortable you are with your computer skills to decide which route to take.
