i want to host my web site on my own laptop how can i do it.
i have ubuntu.
You will need to install a webserver, such as Apache. It should be simple to install through synaptic. If you google for "Ubuntu Webserver", you may find some interesting things around.
what sort of internet connection do you have? If you have something like ADSL then it might be worth paying a monthly subscription for it as the upload rate on it is capped and will more than likely be under 1MBPS which if you host a website is going to be very near useless if you get multiple hits at the same time
