How to download directly from /archive/ folder instead of the "www" ?

Hello,

I have a question on how to download a file using a direct link other then the usual /var/www/ folder.

For example if I want to download file.zip from this path on the server: /var/www/html/main_folder/download/folder1/file.zip
Then I enter this url in the web browser:
http://255.255.255.255/main_folder/d...lder1/file.zip

However, I need to download file.zip from this location on the server:
/archive/folder_1/download/file.zip
Obviously this link http://255.255.255.255/archive/folde...nload/file.zip will not work.

So, how can we download file.zip using a direct link from that location in the /archive/.... folder?

Thank you for your help, it will be much appreciated.

Two ways spring to mind.
  1. Create an alias in the apache config.
  2. Create a symlink in your /vaw/www/html folder that points to /archive/folder_1 and ensure your apache allows "Follow Symlinks"
