How to discover which process is source of high PPS?

i guess it is some malicious dosing .php script hosted on the server, so im not much interested to know source is Apache or such, but something like vhost, path to the script or such? thx

netstat -p
Will list all the port connections your machine currently has referenced by port, attached to pids, program names, and paths.
That includes connections created by script or command line.
Find the script you suspect by pid and do a tcpdump to verify this the problem.

What is the issue these packet bursts are creating for you?

Try http://www.binarytides.com/linux-com...nitor-network/ & http://www.tecmint.com/command-line-...x-performance/
Maybe start with 'nethogs' & iftop tools as described
