i installed linux in default installtion..so iam not getting /home partition.
how can i check space alloted to /home partition ..and also hdd capacity is 160GB then why is showing 141GB only
You have a single partition so, unless you didn't use quota all the free space is aviable in home as every other directory.
About the 160 GB they are 160 while 1000 bytes are 1 kbyte, however computer calculate them in a different way 1024 byte = 1kbyte, so ~140GB is just right
there is no space "alloted to /home partition", since you don't have a home partition. On your install /home is merely a directory on the / filesystem.
Regarding the 160 GB vs 141 GB discrepancy it is probably just a 1024 vs 1000 issue combined with the fact you are comparing /dev/sdb2 to /dev/sdb. Try running df with -H instead of -h, and run fdisk -l on /dev/sdb2.
Part of the 'loss' of space is described above; but you should end with 149GB that way. Next subtract 5% allocated to use by root (in case the HD runs out of space) and you get down to roughly 141GB usable.
