how often we need to apply patches?

Hi pal

how often Red Hat releases the patch for the OS?

we have RHEL-5.4 & RHEL-6.2 in our env. i want to know how often we need to apply the patches?

Is it possible to apply the patches without upgrading the OS versions? how?

thanks pal!

That depends on your exposure, and controls in place. We patch our production systems on a monthly basis (as per our governance and controls). However, if there is something critical that comes in (Heartbleed) we have a control that states we have to patch immediately.

Personally I like the way we do it for our production systems. However, your mileage may vary. You may have other compliance or issues that require you to patch more or less frequently.

Whenever they feel like it, and whenever they have an update to push out. There's no way for ANYONE here to know how often they'll do it.

The 'patches' often time patch the kernel. Unless you run an upgrade from one version to another, applying updates to RHEL won't update it from 6.2 to 6.5. That said, as with your OTHER threads about RHEL, if you have questions about such things, you should CONTACT RED HAT SUPPORT, since you're paying for it. If you're paying for a RHEL subscription, you can ask them about patches/updates, and they will have definitive answers.

Since, in your other threads, you mention Red Hat satellite server, and ask about things that you ONLY would get with subscriptions, it's fairly obvious you're paying for RHEL...which means you're paying for support. Enjoy those benefits.
