How do I show the data I inserted into a table in PostgreSQL

I have used the insert command to insert data into one of the columns in the database's table. I specified the columns and the data that was going to be placed inside of it like so
Code:

INSERT INTO table (
first column,
VALUES
(
'first column value'
);

This is a simple table with one column and only one value was added into the column, Now I want to know how to display the data I have placed into the table.

Is this a trick question where
Code:

select * from table;
wouldn't work?
