How do i create a network boot server for thin clients and OS installations
I know its a little extreem for a first posting but its something i have been thinking about for the last while.
I want to create a server from one of my 'old' (1.2ghz) computers to use as both a server for diskless workstations and installing both windows and linux over the network. i figure the best way to do this would be to start up a grub loader over the network. then load the installers. I have seen simmilar things done via CD/DVD but i want to do it over the network. any suggestions on what kind of resources i should be looking for would be greatly apreciated. |
It sounds like you want to implement a PXE (pronounced pixie) boot solution (which is a Preboot eXecution Environment).
An approach that I just found out about myself is here http://clonezilla.sourceforge.net/ There are others however, here is a comprehensive site on PXE. |
You'll prob find these 2 sites relevant: www.ltsp.org , http://www.k12ltsp.org/contents.html
