Hi,

How can we find using putty that system is virtual or physical?

In KVM/XEN we can check kernel, but for ESX/Vmware..any idea?

As an admin

Why would you want someone to be able to TELL if your server were physical or virtual?
Part of the Hypervisor technique is expressly to make that as difficult as possible!
Why are you thinking you might want a remote user to be able to tell?

The whole point of virtualization is that the operating system is completely agnostic to whether the machine it's running on is virtual or physical.

What about dmidecode or biosdecode (both need to run by root)? What type of mainboard/BIOS is listed there, might give some clue (or the complete output of hwinfo)
