ok, running RH AS-3 i ftp into a new account today and i seen something new and not to my liking. when i ftp in i can see everything, other dir's, other user acct's. dont recall this ever doing this behavior before. so i have a few questions(forgive my stupidity)
what perms is the /home dir supposed to have set?
is there an easy way to fix this issue, so that users will go directly into their acct and not see anything above their dir?
The other one, I don't really know if you're talkin about '/usr' or acctually an '/user' directory, if it is the first one should be 755 too.
About a fix, there is, it should be done using the configuration file of the ftp server.
In the ftp servers I've used (pure-ftpd, proftpd, vsftpd) you can 'chroot' users, you don't make a very clear statement about if it is your server, other server and you're configuring it, what server is....so I can't give you more detail than that. Check the manual of the running ftp server regarding to chrooting users.
