Hide index.html, dir list before authentication in apache

Dear all,

I am using apache2 on suse 10.1 . In my web server we using authentication for viewing the directories as well as the index.html.

When we login to the server via web browser we can see the index.html page in the background while apache waiting for authentication. Can some one tell me how to hide that before authorization.

Thanks in advance
Shan

off the top of my head no, but why not make a blank page (call it start.html or something) with a meta refresh as that shouldn't take effect until after the authentication. Obviously make sure you update the apache conf to add that in the DirectoryIndex, you could also do the same with a php header and/or coldfusion cflocation.

I can't swear but pretty sure all the above won't happen until after the auth. I just tested on one of my apache2 box's (although this is running centos, no biggie) and it worked fine, give that a quick try and report back.

Any way i solved the problem . What i have done is from the index.html
I have created a link to that des. directory. So Authentication box appear from infront of the index.html( dummy ) page. But still if i am going directly using the url its asking. After i add the

Options -Indexes

the problem rectified

Thanks
