help with pure-ftpd

hi.
i've setup a ftp server using pure-ftpd on a fedora machine.
installed ok, changed the configuration using this.
but when i try to connect to the server i get this:~

Quote:

connecting to xx.xx.xxx..xx
connection established,waiting for welcome message.....
Error could not connect to server.

oh, and i did not use mysql or anything, plain PAM, for testing purposes.
any ideas on how to solve this?
help would be appreciated

Based on the limited info you provided, it suggests that you have not opened a port in the firewall for this. Open a terminal and try ftping to the localhost. If It works then it is a firewall issue.

If you still have issues, paste your config files to http://pastebin.com/ and copy/paste the link here so we can look into your issue with more detail.

ftp to the localhost worked, as you said the firewall is blocking access to the port right?
