Help with an FTP server
Okay,
so I can't find a solution to this on google :( I'm a small time web designer, and I've decided I want to set up web hosting for my customers. I got my own Dell server here next to me, and I got my install CDs for Red Hat 5. I want to offer FTP account to my users, but from experience in the past, the users I create are free to roam through all sub directories of the FTP server. So i'm wondering, how do I isolate a user to a home dir so they can only view thier files and go no higher in the dir structure than thier home dir? Thanks in advance, John Minns |
Red hat uses vsftpd. I think this article may help you with what you are trying to achieve. Also take a look at the vstfpd FAQs.

Hi.
The default FTP server in RedHat (vsftpd) chroot's local users to their home direcories, so this shouldn't be a problem. Dave |
Thanks, that looks like the sort of thing I'm looking for :)
When I get it all up and running I'll use these and let you know how it goes. I have a few questions I need answering, so you may see me around quite a bit in this section :D |
