Help installing the correct version of libssl on CentOS

I can't seem to get this to install the correct version. I need the dependency libssl.so.0.9.8 for my distro, CentOS 5.8 64bit

Code:
root@server3 [/]# yum install libssl
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, security
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
 * base: mirror.symnds.com
 * extras: mirror.symnds.com
 * updates: mirror.atlanticmetro.net
Excluding Packages in global exclude list
Finished
Setting up Install Process
No package libssl available.
Nothing to do
After doing some Google, it seems the command should be openssl instead.

Code:
root@server3 [/]# yum install openssl
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, security
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
 * base: mirror.symnds.com
 * extras: mirror.symnds.com
 * updates: mirror.atlanticmetro.net
Excluding Packages in global exclude list
Finished
Setting up Install Process
Package openssl-0.9.8e-22.el5_8.4.x86_64 already installed and latest version
Package openssl-0.9.8e-22.el5_8.4.i686 already installed and latest version
Nothing to do
However it seems to be version 0.9.8e, I need version 0.9.8. I assumed creating a symblolic link for the files I need to point to the 0.9.8e files would do the trick, but I was wrong. It's just not working.

I'm cluless on what to do now. Google isn't helping much.

No CentOS / Fedora ever had plain libssl.so.0.9.8 .
( CentOS 5 is Fedora 6 based.)

Mandriva 2007...2010 provide libssl.so.0.9.8 from openssl-0.9.8e..k source.
( Mandriva 2006 used a plain openssl-0.9.8 source.)

If you want a package, you will have to build it from openssl-0.9.8e :
The file /usr/lib64/libssl.so.0.9.8e can be used in a "one file rpm package".
Copy /usr/lib64/libssl.so.0.9.8e to /usr/lib64/libssl.so.0.9.8,
and make it a package, e.g. libssl-0.9.8-1.x86_84.rpm.

What is it, that requires libssl.so.0.9.8 ? ?

.

Apparently it's a Source based game called Goldeneye: Source that requires that. From what I can gather, libssl.so.10 will work as well, but I'm not sure how to get that installed on the box either.
