Help an idiot set up MySQL!

Ok guys, Im pretty new to linux. Im running Fedora Core 6, with apache and all the goodies. Im trying to set it all up to host Invision Power Board. I got it all pretty much set up, except for MySQL. First, it told me my Mysql.sock was missing. So i found one on the net and put it in there. Now i got a little farther. My problem now is that i cannot create a database for use with IPB. When i follow the steps ive found, all i end up with in the mysql directory is a subdir with the name of my db and in it is one file that just contains the char set. So, can any of you type me up a pretty failsafe step-by-step on how to, from scratch make a new mysql db and make it work with IPB?!

Any help is appreciated.

Setting up mysql is a very common question. Here's an answer from Google.

Thumbs up

Hi,
I'm the author of the article that macemoneta referred you to. How is your mysql installing coming along? Let me know if I can do anything to help, and if I need to change the documentation I wrote.

Thank you. Your guide did help me set up the mysql db. The guide helped but i also did some other messing around to, to finally get it working. It is a wonderful guide. (I bookmarked it too lol)

Now im facing the problem of getting my sendmail service to work with Invision powerboard. Im about to post that in another thread on here.

OK. Glad to hear it helped. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Invision PB. I looked into it yesterday when I saw your post. It looks like a standard BBS... Granted, I didn't really examine it closely or anything... more of a cursory glance. :-) Do you not like the various open source BBS's out there? Just curious.
