Group-based quotas
Hey all. We've got some folks that are starting to push the disk space into the upper stratosphere so the time to implement disk quotas has come. I inherited this mess, so if you're asking yourself, "Why not start with disk quotas so they wouldn't get to this point in the first place?", the answer is, "previous sysadmin blues". We have around 170 users that really don't need anything beyond 100GB, but we do have special cases that need one terabyte. Those are only around 6 people. We're using OpenLDAP for authorization/authentication and CentOS 6 is the OS. Thinking relevant to doing this en masse, would you all suggest placing those special case users into a temporary group, like "highrollers" or something, then create the quota for the remainder of the users that only require 100G, then apply the 1TB quota for the remainding 6? How are ya'll handling group-based disk quotas?
Thanks for any/all insight.
